64 Buick 300 head gasket problem.

I have a 64 Skylark with a 300 engine. Previous owner replaced the aluminum heads with cast iron (from a 65 ?). I had to pull the head to remove a broken exhuast manifold bolt. After installing the new head gasket (identical to the old one) I have a antifreeze leak coming from the bottom of the head gasket next to where the oil stick enters the block (driver's side). THe head gasket has a tab that covers a cooling port in the head but there is no mating surface on the block to compress and seal that part of the gasket. Don't know how it didn't leak before or was sealed. All I can figure is to tap and plug this port that goes no where.Anyone have some info on this problem?.
