I JUST BOUGHT A 1949 BUICK SUPER WITH A SROMBERG CARB ON ENGINE M,,,CAR LAST RAN 3 YRS AGO AFTER CLEANING TANK GAS LINES NEW FUEL PUMP ,BATTERY , I GOT CAR STARTED AND RUNS GREAT, BUT??? IF I GIVE IT TO MUCH GAS THE STARTER WANT TO ENGAGE ,, IS THAT SWITCH REBUILDABLE OR WHATS GOING ON ?? PLEASE…

When the engine stops there is no vacuum, this is what causes the switch to engage the starter. Quite possibly a vacuum line is dried out and when you accelerate the vacuum is to low.
