Car body Widths

I want to restore a car but am not sure what yet. I think though that I want it to be wide (width) but cant find the info I want on the web. Anyone know of some of the wider cars ever produced regardless of year (although Im more interested in the 40's and 50's)

Your best bet would be to pick up the various volumes of "The Standard Catalog of American Cars", as these books have all the pertinent measurements, along with weight, engines, all of that sort of thing.

The widest car I have ever seen was last in the collection of Dean Kruse- the "Father Divine" car. A rolls I believe with just a hugely wide body. It could be bought, I would think.

The "Father Divine Throne Car" was a Dusenberg J, stretched out to 178" wheelbase, bodied by Bohmann & Schwartz in 1936-37, with touches of JN styling by J. Herbert Newport. Yes, it's a wide car, but then so is any Duesenberg Model J.

If you're primarily looking for a wide car (what an interesting requirement!), the late '50s (out of "'40-50s") will be your best bet. '59 Buick is 80.7" wide, and that does not include sideviews (they do not project outboard of the body anyway). That's one of the widest I can recall- it's wider than most '60s cars. But I have a feeling that the '58-60 Lincolns are up there, too.
