It's hard to tell from the pictures, really, but I think 11.5K is a bit on the high side for your car. It is a very nice car and these cars drive beautifully. But there is not a huge demand for 1947 Cadillac sedans. CCCA folks do like to tour with them, but there are plenty around to satisfy that demand.
Still, it is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. But the economy is not exactly in terrific shape these days, I think you might wait a while to find a buyer at the price your asking.
That's my two cents worth on a very dangerous area. Good luck selling or keeping your car, I look forward to seeing it thrive and remain on the road.

Thank you Bill. I must say it is refreshing to get an opinion on this. I realise I am asking high...it gives the buyer and me room to haggle. I would take as low as $9.5 for it which is right in line with what I see out on the market today but as I said...I needed haggling room <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
It is a beautiful car and I was not aware of its being plentiful on the market. Still it hardly matters as I love the car. I will keep it until I find someone who wants it as a better than good restoration project. Since losing my Olds to a drunk driver on July 4th, I am now in the position to do more on the Caddy. Thanks again!

a 47 sedan owned from new by queen of bhopal and then the prince of tehri-garwal recently sold here in india for slightly over $10000 but your car seems to be in a better shape,so about 10000 should be ok

Thank you, Awini. I will keep it out there but I do not expect any serious consideration for it at this time. Since losing the other car, I am probably going to replace the old truck I have with the insurance money and get something reliable (though nice, of course) for the daily work. Then keep the '47. I appreciate its intrinsic value and hope to have years of enjoyment from it.

Just for reference, this past February, we sold a 47 Cadillac sedan similar to yours, but in a less attractive beige color, for $11,000. It was an excellent driver with good original chrome, new interior, although the door panels were not done correctly and fair paint.
In my never-to-be-humble opinion, your price is not out of line.

Thanks, Jon! May I ask why you sold it? I would like a 56 Cadillac but I think I am keeping the 47 for the time. I love it and I think it will make an excellent touring car. What were you experiences?

I do buy and sell some collector cars, and the proceeds from the cadillac, and others, will go toward rebuilding the engine on our 3 Litre Bentley.

Sorry, Randall, I hit the wrong button before I had finished. We, my wife and I, have had quite a few 1940 through 1947 Cadillacs. They are the most popular cars on CCCA CARavans for good reason. These cars are quiet, powerful, easy to drive, reliable and very comfortable. On top of all that they just happen to be quite attractive. While I usually drive earlier cars in Club events, I have always enjoyed the late Cadillacs. Some years ago my business partner had just purchased a new Lincoln Town Car and we had just bought a '41 62 convertible coupe. He took a drive in the Cadillac while I drive his new Lincoln. Upon our return from a short drive, his comment was, "The Cadillac is nice but I'd rather have the Lincoln for an everyday driver, wouldn't you?" My response was that, everything being equal, new vs new, and no concern for collector value, wear and tear, etc, I would rather drive the Cadillac.
Enjoy your car, and stay clear of the weird drivers.

Jon, That seems to be the concensus of opinion. The '47 is a keeper. I would still like a '56 but I doubt that will be happening anytime soon. And I am thinking I would just as soon keep the Flying Dutchman. I would like to see him reliable to the point of being my general driver...I am retired and only go to the store, doctor and for the occassional visit to see my parents 40 miles from my house. And there are those tours I'd like to take. Other than that, I could use another cheap knock about...but I hate having cheap nasty cars!! <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
