Could the Grand Experience be Grander?

Attended the Grand Experience and had a wonderful time. A really class event, great people, great line up of events, and some of the most unusual Packards I think ever assembled in one place. Had a discussion while there with some other guys about the fact that this show (and all of our shows for that matter) are a "well kept secret". Got me to wondering what would happen if we did some publicity for our Concourses, in an effort to make them more like Pebble, Amelia Island, or Meadowbrook attendance wise. Obviously, we would have to deal with the crowd issues, but otherwise it looks to me to be a winning proposition. More money for the club, more chance to educate people about our cars and club.any thoughts?Shawn

I've shown, won and judged at AACA National events,but never attended any "High End" events. How do your events differ?

The only AACA event I have ever been to is Hershey and I guess there isnt much difference. I really enjoy the car show at Hershey. of course the crowd is big at Hershey since practically everyone in the country who is a car guy is there. We judge our cars very similarly to how you judge your cars, from what I can tell. I have been very impressed with the quality of the restoration of the cars at hershey.

The Grand Experience is very much like any of the major concourse I mentioned above except that it isnt on the radar screen of the hobby or public largely. We don't really publicize it outside of the club or local area it is held in from what I can tell. If we did I think it would rank right up there with the other shows I mentioned.

Thanks for the kind words about the Experience. We who have been going for many years have seen some fantastic shows there with really fabulous cars from all over the country. We have worked hard to make it a fun and relaxed event where you can enjoy the cars and the people and just have a great time. It can be hard to get people to come there the first time since it isn't in a major city and they don't much about it, but once they come, they always come back because they have such a good time. I had such a good time that I got on the team that puts it on. Next year's event will pit the best of the UK against the best of the US --- the features are Duesenberg, Rolls Royce and Bentley, with all classics invited also. It will be one of the greatest shows ever - so mark your calender now to be there next June 6th! And a big THANK YOU to all those who brought cars and came to this year's show. Thanks! Dave Mitchell

IMHO the thing that brings the crowds to the more known concours is the large variety of cars. Last weekend in spite of the rain there was a large turn out at the Greenwich Concours and an incredible collection of cars including many "Classic CCCA cars". I'm attatching a photo of J446 which won "Best American Open Car"

Wow! That is one awesome Duesenberg! Next year we are featuring Duesenberg at the Experience which will also be combined with a Grand Classic and we'd love to have you bring J446 out to see us. I am putting together special preliminary invitations for Duesenberg owners and if you and other Duesenberg owners send me your address at packard12s@hotmail.com, I will put you on the list. We are shooting for a world record gathering of Duesenbergs and have a good start on it already. It will be a great event, so I hope you will come.
